Post 2 ~ Challenges as an Artist

If someone with a chronic health condition stumbles upon this (very condensed version of my personal experience) and finds a little inspiration not to give up, then I'm more than happy to share my story. Now, let me start by saying I’m not a doctor, but I’ve definitely spent my fair share of time with them—so that’s my little disclaimer, ha!

I used to be the picture of health, barely needing to see a doctor. But at the age of 40, everything changed. I felt terrible in every way—mentally and physically. It took about six months of suffering before I was finally diagnosed with Hashimoto’s, which comes with a laundry list of symptoms. Just when I thought I had that under control, I started dealing with vertigo and joint pain as I approached 50. By the time I hit 50, my left leg and right arm were either numb, tingling, or in severe pain. A few months ago, I was diagnosed with spinal stenosis—another condition with its own set of challenges.

But here’s the good news: taking care of my body with good food, mild exercise, and lots of stretching has really helped. I’m sharing this because, despite everything, my love for creating art is stronger than any diagnosis. I won’t let it define or worry me. I draw and create because I finally can! There was a time when my circumstances didn’t allow for it—I had to work a full-time job with health benefits. Maybe that’s your situation at the moment, but I encourage you to keep moving toward that goal. Don’t give up, even if it takes time for the right circumstances to come together. Believe it will happen, and it will! Be grateful now, and when the moment comes, even if it’s not “the perfect” circumstances, keep going. Nothing is perfect, but pursuing what you love is a health benefit in its own right.

Thanks for getting to know me a little bit more :)

Sending hugs and wishing you all the best
